Who does Stevie Nicks think she is? Kanye West or another of these self-centered rockstars? Probably not, she is well aware to be Stevie Nicks, the legendary Fleetwood Mac singer, and that’s why she is going to show us her collection of selfies, an exhibit called ’24 Karat Gold’ at New York’s Morrison Hotel Gallery on October 10th.

‘Some people don’t sleep at night – I am one of those people’, declared Nicks to Rolling Stone, These pictures were taken long after everyone had gone to bed – I would begin after midnight and go until 4 or 5 in the morning. I stopped at sunrise – like a vampire… I never really thought anyone would ever see these pictures, they went into shoeboxes, where they remained. I did everything – I was the stylist, the makeup artist, the furniture mover, the lighting director. It was my joy – I was the model….’

Ha! Excuse me for sleeping at night Stevie!! We already knew she was a vampire or a witch, but this is a sort of confession, a double one because she also says she wanted to become a pro at taking pictures as she explained to the NY Times:

‘I wanted to learn how to become a photographer. And I don’t sleep at night, so I thought, who am I going to ask to stay up all night, and then do a show tomorrow? So I’m not going to get Christine [McVie]. She’s going to say, ‘Are you crazy? I’m going to the bar. Bye.’’

The self-portraits, which were taken with Polaroid cameras between 1975 and 1987, were selected by Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart, whereas the exhibit will conveniently coincide with the release of her album ’24 Karat Gold: Songs From the Vault’, consisting of songs she wrote between 1969 and 1987 and recently re-recorded. But what was this obsession of herself as a subject? I guess she wanted to become more a model than a photographer, plus photographers don’t use polaroids!

Spin has posted a few of these pictures, and I just don’t understand how Stevie’s polaroids still look so good. If there is something that doesn’t age well it’s a polaroid picture! Have you tried to look at these old ones you have stored in shoeboxes just as Stevie did? The colors have faded away, and they are all yellowish. She added that she stopped doing it when ‘the Polaroids were just almost impossible to use, because there was just no more film and they all broke down.’ Well what about iPhones? They are very good for selfies I have heard… you can check a preview of the exhibit on the Morrison Hotel website.
