once was a hero
once was a hero

1. Time Forgot – Conor Oberst – Not a bad little folkie whiner but he comes across as such a prick it’s a turn off. He wants to not shave and not have to be nice to people; from what I hear that would be business as usual – B+

2. Columbia (White Label Demo) – Oasis – This is wilder and rangier than the released version, the realist version is poppier and smarter – A-

3. Just One Drink – Jack White – Jittery blues nursery rhyme – B+

4. Raging Fire – Phillip Phillips – There are some girls you find attractive for one night and then nothing, I feel something similar about Phillips songs: the first time I think they’re OK but the next time round I can’t listen all the way through – C-

5. She Loves You – Billy Joel – Rehearsal from 1987, and it was rare indeed for someone to cover this seminal pop moment – B+

6. Never – The Roots, Patty Crash – Dark and broody , and not very effective – C-

7. Electrolite – R.E.M. – A truly ace moment from this band and this unplugged version is perfection – A

8. Catch Tomorrow – Afrojack, Sting – This is awful power ballad EDM style – D+

9. The Golden State – John Doe – His shining moment – A

10. What You Isn’t – The Brian Jonestown Experience – I’ve heard this around a million times, not bad for a new song – B
