– Angels And Alcohol – Alan Jackson – “you can’t mix strangers and alcohol”, Jackson warns in this discrete tale of infidelity, a beautiful slide guitar middle eight helps as well. Nothing major but the gift is still there – B

– Eventually – Tame Impala – A little too all over the place to work as a hit single, it is still a pretty dream like state – B+

– Swords – M.I.A. – This is the most M.I.A.ish song you will ever here, a clinging clanging strange beats multi culti goodie – B+

– Energy – Drake –  Have you seen the Apple produced video with Drake impersonating everyone from  Oprah to Miley? – The song is so good, it deserves it – A

– A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You – The Monkees – Whatever sort of genius Davy Jones was, you can hear it on his vocal, his edge of accent on “wrong” and “right,” the way he whispers “too” –a masterpiece – A+

– Going Home (Theme from Local Hero) – Mark Knopfler – Not only is the movie a great one,  once this instrumental kicks in, it is the most gorgeous thing mark has ever put his name to – A

– Everyday – A$AP Rocky – This is the Rod Stewart one, and it took awhile but it works – B

– 99 Problems – Jay Z – This song is so great it has entered the lexicon: you use it to emphasis a problem, in effect it is dust off his shoulders by other means – A+

– The Deportees  Club – Elvis Costello – A lost classic, wait for his scream on the bridge. Best line: “I pray to the saints and all the martyrs for the secret life of Frank Sinatra…” and there is more than one or two – A

– These Days – Foo Fighters – I went in search of a Foo song I like, I thought I quite like some of Wasting Light, but I guess not so much. This is OK – B-
