Zumiez, the skater store that is known for skateboards and apparel does this mini concert/showcases each summer.
Featuring skateboard and bmx exhibitions its a good time for kids under 20 and a great way for their folky moms to pick stuff up at Macys while the kids run amuck. I really enjoyed the people watching aspect of the Couch tour- it's a free event so you get allot of 'WTF?' visitors but all in all the sets re brief, the crowds fluctuate greatly and the skaters are a bit distracting.
The line up this year is the best yet. Problem is they are all very far from me. I am pained to see there are really only three dates on the East Coast. What a shame, hike this gig up a few states North and it would be party time.
Baltimore (June 18th): Set Your Goals and Conditions (White Marsh Mall)
Philadelphia (June 20th): Set Your Goals and Conditions (Franklin Mills Mall)
West Nyack (June 21st): Set Your Goals and Conditions (Palisades Center)
Yup, that's it. A big fat dud. Ready for the depression to set in? Here is the line up Wonder Years, the Cab, We Came As Romans, Set Your Goals, A Skylit Drive, Conditions, Daytrader and the Classic Crime. I could do without the Cab and A Skylit Drive but the rest are fantastic and now I'm pissed.
Let's face it if its not Boston, New York or LA it simply doesn't matter. You may as well just play in your basement- we have malls too ya know!
So if you're in one of those podunk towns go on and enjoy yourself. With gas at $4.15 a gallon and a big SUV, I'm thinking free shows aren't even worth the travel.
