We live in weird times, it is a fact, and here is another example. Mohammed Emwazi is the Kuwaiti British man who is believed to have carried out the executions of American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, British aid workers David Haines and Alan Henning, and American aid worker Peter Kassig. He is also said to be responsible for the murder of Japanese hostages Haruna Yukawa and Kenji Goto last October. And why am I writing about this awful murderer on a music blog? It’s simple, the guy has lived a great deal of his life in England, he attended a British school in London, wanted to be a professional football and so had a very British upbringing. Unfortunately, he got radicalized later on and at one point became Jihadi John… The horrific part is that he is/was part of a terrorist cell called the Beatles, and of course the John part in his war name refers to John Lennon. Other members of the cell are evidently called George, Paul and Ringo… some leftovers of their British childhood.
What a sad world! Of course, the news went to the ears of Yoko Ono, who was interviewed by the Guardian a few days ago. ‘I thought that was very distasteful,’ she declared. ‘That’s why it’s important to me to not be a couch potato. I have to keep on doing something because the other side will take over – people who are really not understanding what beautiful things we have in this world and want to destroy it. And I’m not going to let them destroy John or the Beatles.’
Sure, Yoko but I wonder what you can do against ISIS? I mean I don’t want to make fun of this because I don’t find it funny at all, but a bed-in for peace is not going to do anything against these savages!
‘I think you can be cynical about those things,’ she explained after talking about the fact that, in 1971, the idea of her having a show at MoMA seemed ridiculous. Nevertheless the show is a reality now, as Yoko Ono: One woman Show, 1960-1971, in sight till September 7th. ‘So if you decide to do something,’ she concludes, ‘it’s going to work, although it might take some time. I don’t like to use the word ‘optimistic’, because that sounds like it’s not really true, but I think we’re actually on the road to world peace.’
Am I the only one to find this connection totally insane? Only Yoko Ono could lead the fight against ISIS to a promotion for her own exhibit!
