Willie Nelson’ s iconic braids are going up for auction but this is for a good cause. When I read this I thought he had cut the ones he wears now, but the ones in question were cut in 1983 in solidarity for the late Waylon Jennings! Another reason to get interested by the story because I have just seen Shooter Jennings, Waylon’s son, two days ago at Amoeba for the release of his tribute to another country icon George Jones. It’s clear that all these country guys truly band together.
So Willie cut his hair in 1983 to help Waylon who at the time was trying to get sober, and the braids ended up in a lot of 500 personal belongings, which are now listed in auction to help the Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
Among other things in this auction, you will find Buddy Holly’s motorcycle, Muhammad Ali’s boxing gloves and robe, Hank Williams’ cowboy boots and a letter to Jennings from John Lennon,
At this point, I would not sell anything that contains my DNA, remember about this dentist who wanted to clone John Lennon by extracting his DNA from the Beatle’s tooth? Without even thinking about cloning, we now have the possibility to extract DNA with very limited and cheap equipment and learn so many things about the person… Willie probably doesn’t care about any of that, but he should be careful nevertheless.
New York City-based auction house Guernsey’s will take care of the auction, which is being offered by Jennings’ wife, Jessi Colter on October 5th at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix.
‘’My goal is to own John Lennon’s DNA,’had said creepy Dr. Michael Zuk who bought Lennon’s molar for nearly $33,000, I wonder how much Willie’s braids will reach.
