Titus Andronicus’ new video for their single ‘In A Big City’ reminds me I really should listen to their new album ‘Local Business’ which was just released on XL.
In the video, frontman Patrick Stickles – who looks so handsome, and so fearless without his beard – walks alone though the desolated streets, urban landscapes and Amtrack rails (in New Jersey, I presume) before arriving at the edge of the Hudson River and starring at Manhattan on the other side.
And what a ferocious and determined stare! He looks like a solitary avenger in search of his mission for justice, singing ‘I grew up on one side of the river/I was a disturbed, dangerous drifter/moved over to the other side of the river/now I'm a drop in a deluge of hipsters’… There are probably tons of literature references that have escaped me, but the anthemic song seems to tell his search for true identity and the delusions and frustrations coming with it, whereas the music sounds like one of these Titus Andronicus classic rock’ n’ roll epic numbers with, of course, a touch of Springsteen's spirit.
