Have you watched this new video for Atoms for Peace? It is simply amazing! I know that we can do about anything with CGI technology, but the result is fascinating. ‘Before Your Very Eyes’, the first song of their 2013 album ‘Amok’, which delivers Yorke’s moaning falsetto melting over a rare fluidity due to a savant combination of guitars, rattling electronic percussion and Flea’s elastic bass , becomes a terrific visual experience in front of your eyes.
It’s all about moving sand, fantastic landscapes of golden and rainbow rocks, blue skies, and Thom Yorke, giant sandman crumbling in ruins, sinking with entire cities, re-appearing among stalactites. I am not sure of what’s exactly happening as the whole video is extremely trippy and psychedelic, but the result is really beautiful and hypnotic even though a real melancholy and sadness escape from its doomed nature.
It may remind you a bit this video that Bjork made for her song ‘Mutual Core’, it’s this same earthly feeling although the Atoms For Peace’s new one looks much more CGI-zed. The only problem is that I had to play it at least four or five times before giving any attention to the song itself, I mean when the visuals are that good, you kind of forget about the music,… so in this case, should we rather applause the artists who did the CGI than the band?
