I’ve recently gotten in to Walk The Moon since a friend suggested them to me. They’re catchy and poppy, kind of like an American Two Door Cinema Club. Their song “Quesadilla” is my favorite of theirs, and I can’t get enough of it. Turns out they did something called 7in7; “”7in7″ is a series of officially unofficial music videos, hand-made, band-made by WALK THE MOON without a film crew or a budget. While out on tour, with one camera, the band filmed seven videos in seven days for songs from their self-titled album.” That’s so great, and I had to watch the video they made for this song.
The boys are incredibly dorky and it’s adorable. Piñatas, baseball bats, silly hats, weird antics- it’s whimsical and hilarious. Then once they involve silly string and water balloons, it’s a whole other story. It’s clear that they were just being themselves and enjoying being doofy with one another. It’s definitely a video that improves your mood if you’re down, just because of how ridiculous it is. In the end, the rest of the band members steal the piñata from the frontman Nicholas Petricca, and break it right in front of him. It’s laughable and playful.
As for the song, it’s definitely their best. The drums are fantastic, his voice is absolutely chilling, and it’s a great tune to dance to. Compositionally, it’s interesting, changing tempo and the verse and chorus are very different and still somehow fit. It keeps you on the edge of your seat; it really challenges the conventional style of songwriting. I love it.
