Recently, this unreleased, never-before-heard track was played on Andrew Sandoval’s “Come To The Sunshine” internet radio program. Fortunately someone was able to record it and post it on Youtube.
The song, “Past My Door” is from a 1967 demo acetate titled, “Gene Clark Sings For You”. Even though it’s simply a collection of tunes and ideas Gene never returned to, the mere fact that it still exists and has never been heard gives the acetate immediate “lost album” status.
We can only hope that whoever has that acetate will let us hear the rest of it. Either by actual release or by some other means. “Past My Door” is hauntingly beautiful, with a surprising tempo change that may sound awkward upon first listen , but is in fact staggeringly brilliant.
Those of you that are as thrilled about this as me and want to find out more about this lost music can go to http://clarkophile.blogspot.com/ which is the ultimate Gene Clark resource on the web.
