Remember in “Love Actually” where Bill Nighy’s hasbeen pop star Billy Mack is vying for the UK’s Christmas single of the year with his “Christmas’s All Around”? Uplifting stuff isn’t it? Mack gets invited to Elton John’s Christmas party, feted by everyone, after beating out some boy band but returns to his manager.

In the real world, here are the #1’s in rock nyc’s lifetime thru this 2013…

2009 Rage Against the Machine “Killing in the Name”
2010 Matt Cardle “When We Collide”
2011 Military Wives with Gareth Malone “Wherever You Are”
2012 The Justice Collective  “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother”
2013 Sam Bailey “Skyscraper”

Yes folks, the great 2009 where a rage Against The Machine song was pushed to the top of the charts in the true holiday spirit, stopping the godwaful X Factor contestant who usually wins their perch, was the keeper. The Military Wives and the Justice Collective, a tonic for the troops and a local charity for a soccer game disaster separate two X Factor winners and so to not even an hour ago…

2014 Ben Haenow “Something I Need”

Where the hell is Bill Nighy when you need him? The X Factor winner Ben Haenow may have never hurt any one and since he is a former truck driver may be you can go further and say it is a better daydream than Billy, but I just wish the song was better. It is truly terrible, not the verses, but the chorus, which is like being lifted up by a crane against your will. What can I tell you about Ben that might put it in perspective? He won the contest with his version of “Hallelujah”
