Turtles Tour Nostalgia equals big bucks, particularly in the summer time (unless you’re Phil Collins). So it’s no surprise that Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan are packing up this summer for another edition of their “Happy Together” tour.
This year, they will be joined by The Association, The Grass Roots, The Buckinghams, and Mark Lindsay (of Paul Revere and The Raiders).
Kaylan is also expected to publish his memoirs later this year. Given his incredible journey involving not just The Turtles, but Frank Zappa and the Mothers, his stint with Volman under the moniker “Flo And Eddie”, as well as lending his and Volman’s pitch perfect voices to hit records like “Get It On (bang a gong)” and “Hungry Heart”, the book promises to be an entertaining read.
Rumors still persist that both Volman and Kaylan are in negotiations with Dweezil Zappa to appear in his “Zappa plays Zappa” touring ensemble. Previous tours have focused on various stages of Frank Zappa’s rich diverse musical career, with other guest stars in tow. Terry Bozzio, Steve Vai, and others have joined Dweezil Zappa on stage in years past to faithfully re-create Frank’s incredible music. If you've never seen it, here is a drop dead hilarious video of Volman and Kaylan explaining the star-crossed, litigation scarred history of The Turtles.
