I have never quite understood the hype of Tigers Jaw, but I decided to listen to their latest single just to give it a go. “Nervous Kids” is a tune they released off their upcoming album, “Charmer”, due out June 3rd. I’ve never really given these guys the time of day but there’s an immense amount of hype surrounding them so I figured I’d dive a little deeper.
The Pennsylvania natives have a chick in their band, so right off the bat I was unsure of what I was getting myself into. Luckily, the song does not include any of her vocals. The song itself is pretty standard mopey pop punk. The guitars are nothing special, the but the drummer is phenomenal and the saving grace for this song. As for the vocals, they’re not fantastic but at least they don’t sound like a hundred other people doing the exact same thing as these guys. That sets them apart a bit, but to be honest, I couldn’t differentiate these guys from any other pop punk group around.
Apparently, the band only really consists of the girl (Brianna) and Ben. The three other founding members left the band. This was an issue because everyone thought they were going to be breaking up, but that’s no longer the case. Three other people stepped in as replacements, but only for live performances. Tigers Jaw is literally now only Brianna and Ben.
