Festival season is here, meaning a spike of teenagers flocking to festival grounds of your area clad in strange attire and probably listening to crappy music. However, jokes aside, festivals can be extremely dangerous if not handled properly by all those involved, and at the Parklife festival in Manchester last week, there was a example of this.
A 26 year old man named Robert Hart died in the hospital after a brutal assault at the festival, on June 7th. Hart was attacked after protecting his girlfriend from being hit repeatedly with an inflatable toy whilst waiting for Snoop Dogg’s set.
Manchester police say that who they believe is responsible for the attack is around 25, 6 foot, with short and curly black hair.
This was not the only incident of violence at this festival either. Two men were stabbed at the festival the same day, apparently during a brawl. One man was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary with non life threatening yet serious injuries and the other was treated on site. Two men were arrested after police were called to the site.
The violence seems to just be across the pond, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take heed. We put faith in those security guards who pat us down or wave over us with metal detectors, but things can pass through that. Stay around people, stay around open areas, and make sure that you are never without a buddy or a group of people. It’s the simplest way to stay safe.
