Thom Yorke – Doom Collaboration

Thom Yorke is a restless guy, wasn’t we talking about his collaboration with Burial and Four Tet a few days ago? If he is the King of Limbs, he must have as many limbs as an octopus has tentacles, as he is now collaborating with Doom on a rap album.

In an interview with 3D World Magazine, Doom, who used to go under the MF (Metal Face) DOOM moniker, as he was wearing a mask similar to that of Marvel Comics super-villain Doctor Doom, said he is ‘just finishing up the new Madvillain record’, and is ‘doing some stuff with Thom Yorke’,,, he added: ‘We’re working on some duets, some duet songs and shit. Just like preliminary shit but we’ll probably end up doing a whole record together.’

He added that Yorke was cool, had ‘a lot of ill ass ideas and shit’, but also was a
fan of his; he has certainly already contributed to a remix of Doom’s ‘Gazillion Ear’ for his 2009 album ‘Born Like This’.
At that time, Yorke called Doom in order to record music together as the rapper explained in a previous interview: ‘He actually approached us, he heard a rough version of  ‘Gazillion Year’ when I was still working on it and reached out to the label. He wanted to do it on the strength. I wasn’t too familiar with his work but then I did my research on him and saw he’s a pretty prolific dude. I saw how both of our styles could compliment each other and bring more people together with it because his fans are hardcore, if not more hardcore than my fans. It was a good way to bridge the two.’

So it is the underground-masked-rap scene meeting the crème-de-la-crème-hipster-material-turned mainstream,… it may give a curious result.
