Thom Yorke And Nigel Godrich Played New Atoms For Peace's Tracks At Transmission LA

I told you this place was hot! Nevertheless, I was not there at the right time…

On Friday night, Thom Yorke jumped on the MOCA stage at the festival Transmission LA curated by Beastie Boys’ Mike D, to DJ with his friend and producer Nigel Godrich! This was not announced, of course, and I got the news at the last minute when it was already full, as you had to make a reservation to attend.

Anyway, the big news is that Thom and Nigel played a few unreleased songs from Atoms For Peace, the supergroup made of themselves plus Flea from The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Joey Waronker and Mauro Refosco,… and of course we have some YouTube videos, in five parts!

Some tracks sound a little like Thom Yorke’s solo work, with his vocals (especially part 1) over piano or electronic beats, yes, lots of beats on some of these, with textured melodies. However, the videos are just snippets or even remixes of songs and probably not the finished products, as Thom and Nigel are doing whatever DJs do with their mixing tables, and aren’t just playing some finished tracks.

I am just curious what Flea, for example, will bring into this pure-electronica mix, but I suppose we will have to wait until the release of their highly anticipated LP, which may be released later this year.
