I love how I can write about whatever I please especially on days like today when the words are flowing. I don’t feel like talking about Gaga or Cobain or Grammys or digital downloads.
Instead I want to write about music. That is after all why we do this. I can re write every news story on earth if I want but I’m not in the mood and nothing really fun is going on so instead this fine Sunday I’m going to go all introspective and share a bit of the other side of me. I adore hardcore and old school punk but I also have some really uncharacteristic loves that I will share with you now. See, in our quests to be cool we often forget to look backward. Everyone wants to be so damn cutting edge. No matter what you like right this moment, its been done. Someone may have tweaked it so to speak but boom done.. you ain’t discovering the wheel.
So here you have it 10 songs I aint ashamed to say freakin shake me to my shoes:
1- Dean Martin, “Ain’t That A Kick In The Head”, how mosh pit… no actually its about love and its amazing “She’s telling me we’ll be wed, She’s picked out a king size bed, I couldn’t feel any better or I’d be sick” fucking amazing lyrics.
2- The Monkees, “Hold On Girl”, Seriously Davy wooot wooot!
3-ELO, “Mr Blue Sky”, No kidding Friday I belted this thing out like a rock star on the way to the office its a really good thing my commute is in the dark.
4-David Cassidy, “I Think I Love You”, this song really is pretty funny. ‘Before I go insane I hold my pillow to my head and scream…”seriously? Regardless great song.
5-Elvis Presley, “Trying To Get To You”, “When I read your loving letter Then my heart began to sing. There were many miles between us, But they didn’t mean a thing.” swoon.
6- The Doors, “Peace Frog”, the bass draws me in. I’m not even sure what else but I love this song lately.
7-Perry Como ” And I Love You So”, And I love you so, people ask me how…” I didn’t even know there were more lyrics than those til about 2 weeks ago. It was stolen by Don McLean.
8-Sonny and Cher “I Got You Babe”, but ONLY the 1965 version. They screwed it up once Cher lost her bangs.
9-Eddie Cochran- “Nervous Breakdown”, I sing this ALL the time. Another killer bass
10-Henry Mancini “Peter Gunn”, Listening to this makes me feel like I’m in a spy movie. Yeah, I’m a weirdo.
So there you have it, check some of it out if you aren’t familiar with them and step out of your genre’ once and awhile.
