After weeks and weeks of tease, the Coachella line-up is finally here! But is it just me? I am a little disappointed! I blame all these false rumors about the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, The Smiths and an all-vegetarian festival, or even another reunion of Rage Against the Machine… but none of the above, sorry! Instead we will have Blur, The Stone Roses (close enough to the Stones), Sofia Coppola’s favorite Frenchies, Phoenix , and the omnipresent Red Hot Chili Peppers as headliners,… and none of them really excite me.
That said there is plenty to see among the other acts, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Modest Mouse, Lou Reed, Beach House, Postal Service, Sigur Ros, New order, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Vampire Weekend, Social Distortion, Wu-Tang-Clan, Tame Impala,…and so many others.
I can spot a lot of smaller acts which have made the big jump to Coachella, and I have seen all of them in local venues: Lord Huron, Youth Lagoon, The Neighborhood, Trash Talk, The Wombats, Guards, Kurt Vile, Cloud Nothings, Thee Oh Sees, Smith Westerns, DIIV, Hanni El Khatib, so congrats to them!
But aren’t Blur, the Stone Roses, New Order, the Wu-Tang Clan some kind of old stories? I know, we could have gone even further in time with the Rolling Stones or Bowie! There still are the surprise holograms…. Amy Winehouse anyone?
