We hadn’t heard about British band The Vaccines for quite some time, and they are back with a brand new video for their quite enjoyable new song ‘No Hope’.
Once again, the melody is catchy at the first listening, with an almost Dylan-esque delivery at times, but over everything, the Strokes comparison is unavoidable and may be the Vaccines are trying too much to imitate their elders? Can’t the kids find their own sound these days?
‘No Hope’ is the first song from their upcoming and second album ‘The Vaccines Come of Age’ set to be released on September 3. According to NME, the album will sound ‘more intimate and close than the first record’, and was produced by Ethan Johns who also worked with Kings Of Leon… ouch! not our friends here!
In the artsy black and white video, a young kid tries in vain to win over an older woman with flowers and a love letter, while frontman Justin Young sings ‘And it’s hard to come of age/I think it’s a problem/And it never goes my way/And no, I am so self-obsessed/I guess, but there’s no hope/But I hope it’s just a phase/Or I’ll grow-oh-oh-oh’
Again, it’s very cute, in the gentle rebel category, as there is nothing really dark there (just watch the end of the video) but there is also nothing really new.
Anyway, I am sure their fans will love it! Me? I couldn’t pass the mishmash Hammond-Jr-Dylan-Arctic-Monkeys, but it is a very catchy song.
