The Strokes are a love/ hate band to me. I love them sometime and hate them as poser art boys at other times. This video is a perfect combination of the two. I love this song and the video is a poser art boy extravaganza. Julian called it his Elvis Costello song at MSG and then Elvis came on stage and taught him how to sing it.
All swirly and psychedelic the boys of Strokes duplicate and twirl about like a mushroom trip by invitation only. See you cant get trippy unless you're on the list.
And that's the elitist side of the alternative scene. We know they do a bang up job live, we know they pose well for vogue, and we also know daddy will never let them starve. What is most important is that we realize that despite the neon and the psychedelic, The Strokes are a great band.
Straight up rock and roll for the cautious consumer. You may not want to go to 'out there' so its safe to stay with these guys and let them take you on a ride.
As far as videos go, this is pretty lame. The die hard Strokes fan will find some hidden meaning some 'inside joke', cuz they were on the list.
