If you like or love the Shins, you can download for free (yes free!) the official video for ‘Simple song’ directed by the LA filmmaking duo DANIELS, for a limited time.
This is the single for their upcoming album ‘Port of Morrow’, and it is not this often that a band put so much effort in a video. This one is like a little movie, with a Royal Tenenbaums vibe on the side, and an aging James Mercer (actually he is even supposed to be dead) playing a bad trick on his children, as they have to search for his deed all over his old house.
‘I didn’t choose any of you because, as you know, each of you hates my gut!’ says Mercer in his post-mortem videotaped message.
Chaos follows as the children (played by the members of the band) try to find the deed knowing that the first one who will find it, will get everything! Talk about a dysfunctional family…
But when the deed is found, Mercer has the last laugh: it is actually not really a deed, the house has already been sold and will be demolished in the minutes which follow, since it is ‘full of awful memories for all of us’.
I am usually not extremely interested by videos, except for the imaginative ones, and the dark humor of this one is actually very cute.
