Recorded at Woolly Mammoth Sound in Waltham, MA on October 28, 2014, engineered by David Minehan, assisted by Matt Jones and written by Paul Westerberg & Tommy Stinson “Poke In My Cage”. And why not say I? Listen below to 26 minutes of drums heavy guitar noted, jazz infected jamming by the newly reformed former greatest rock band of the 80s, and the current best rock band of the 2010s.
It isn’t bad, obviously the Replacements left the tape running while they noodled, and equally obviously if it is going somewhere I can’t see where, but still there are moments where the guitar seems to have escaped from “Telstar” and other times where it rings like the bells of Rhymney. The drums really pound it out.
So there are much worse ways to spend half an hour and it certainly puts all questions of the follow up Songs For Slim to rest for a while. Consider it a Christmas goof with a musical mind…
