If you are like a third of the world population and watched the $50 million royal wedding, please skip this post or you may get offended!
On Wednesday, Morrissey expressed his disdain for the royal family in an interview with BBC radio:‘Why would I watch the wedding? I couldn’t take any of that seriously, so I don’t think the so-called royal family is speaking for England now and I don’t think England needs them, and I do seriously believe that they are benefit scroungers, nothing else. I don’t believe they are serving any purpose whatsoever. I’m not an anarchist but I believe that people don’t want the Royal Family. The so-called Royal Family. They’re not royal to me. But they’re royal to the media for some reason’.
Morrissey is right, ‘the Queen is dead’, or should be,… I personally couldn’t care less for that wedding, all these stupid hats, the inbred crowd, the billionaires who were invited, and the media circus around it. We are not English! Why is it on every TV channel!!?? I used to have an English student who had so much hatred for the royal clique that he was calling them ‘parasites’.
Johnny Marr, also went on his own appreciation for the royals, and told NME magazine:
‘I have a few problems with the monarchy, from serious to less serious. One of them is why does she have to deal with her subjects with such a sour face? Surely her life can’t be that hard! As one of her subjects, whatever that means, I can’t think of too many examples of overt empathy and compassion, they just don’t come to mind.
A lot of things go on in this country, and she ain’t no Dalai Lama, you know what I mean? At some point, you either go, well, arrogance, therapy or Prozac – take your pick.’
When asked if he would accept any award from Queen Elizabeth II, he replied: ‘Fuck no!’
Personally, I was humming The Sex Pistols’ ‘God Save The Queen’ all day long….
