Week 44

Live: CMJ Music Marathon week in New York, so I saw  14 shows and oddly enough nearly all of them were pretty good, it really was a blast and next year I think I’ll take the five days off work. Till then, Public Access TV are the next in line for the Strokes (or do I mean the Virgins) crown. Meanwhile, over at NJ Pac, the Tomas Doncker Band were showing the youth of America what it means to have the blues.

Recorded: Back to Doncker, whose Big Apple Blues was easily the album of the week, though honorable mentions to Scott Walker and Sunn o))) and Annie Lennox. Taylor Swift’s 1989 leaked, helped along by Target’s early delivery!!!

Death: The great bassist Jack Bruce, who I saw with Cream at MSG in 2005 and was systematically blown away, died from liver failure at the age of 71. Bruce also played for Alexis Korner’s Blues Inc, the Graham Bond Organisation, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers and Manfred Mann. Blue condition, indeed.

New York City: in 1974 in nyc we were scared because of crime, drugs and poverty, sensible stuff to be scared of, in 2014 we are scared of ebola, islamic nutcases, and speedfreak bicyclist, stupid stuff: it’s like the entire world keeps sneaking up behind us and screaming “booo made you jump..” Devolution in Times Square in action? From being solicited by hookers to being solicited by tickle me elmos.
