Week 16
Live – The week belonged to Kraftwerk. Yes, there is only one original member left and, yes, the other three are hired hands and, yes indeedy, there isn’t much action. But having noted all of the above, the 3D Kraftwerk was a blast of sound and sign and numbers.
Recorded – A very weak week though I would hand it over to Cloud Nothings if anybody at all. Here And Nowhere Else stands as the best rock album of the year so far.
Television – David Letterman announced his retirement in 2014 and I’m not feeling that great myself.
Personal: I was asked to write the liner notes to the 35th anniversary reissue of James Chance’s Buy The Contortions and had a really cool lunch with James and his record label head Tomas Doncker. Meanwhile, Mary Magpie spent the day at her new University with Helen Bach.
Sports: The Knicks beat the Nets and may just get into the playoffs! They won’t last long but I bet Phil Jackson is glad. The Yanks were playing .500 ball and the Mets hadn’t won a game last time I looked.
International: Russia took back Crimea, and Kerry’s peace initiative between Palestine and Israel ended the same way all these things end. In complete disaster.
Weather: Cold in the morning? That we get? Cold the rest of the time? Not so fast.
