That Was The Week Of July 14th, 2014, That Was

A real movie star in the TV role of a life time

A real movie star in the TV role of a life time

Week: 30

Death: James Garner was one of my favorite actors, both “Support Your Local Sheriff” and “Support Your Local Gunfighter” were major charm filled westerns and both “Maverick” and “The Rockford Files” are among the great TV shows. Garner had the toughness of a western hero, an Eastwood or a Wayne, with the self-deprecation of a Woody Allen. A completely winning combination for a great great movie star.

Politics: I don’t quite get what Hamas concept here is, but it seems to me when your civilians are being slaughtered by Israel and you are losing the public relations war, with everybody from Egypt to the USA failing to support you, you should absolutely rethink your strategy. When even Clinton claims your strategy is to push civilian deaths for world favor, you are losing the story line. And when it is left to poor Islamic nations to lead the fight, there needs to be a better solution than this.

Recorded: Jungle isn’t Jungle, but it isn’t house either, rather it sounds like a synth funk which maybe could hit a little harder but man that bass is magical. Weird Al, John Coltrane (an excellent album where he played sideman in the 1950s), and maybe Wunder Wunder’s psychedelic glory.

Live: Quiet week with only a fairly iffy performance by Queen to keep my attention (as I write this Sunday morning).

Sports: If you are only as good as your record, for the past 15 months the Yanks have been a .500 team, from the greatest to the most mediocre.
