Taylor Swift And Private Lives As A Career Move

Over the weekend came news that Taylor Swift was

1. Buying a house in London

and

2. Dating Harry Styles of One Direction again

Who leaked these stories? Who leaked the pix of Taylor Swift Swift reading to Ethel Kennedy? Anyone? Yep, after three years at the very top of the food chain, Swift has turned her life, her deepest feelings, hell, her virginity into a press release.

I guess she started like this: sing about the boys who broke my heart and ended like this, play hide and seek with my emotions to an eager world of gossipmongers. Let them figure it out. Let the world look and read about me and my boyfriends, and check out this former wallflower and envy me, and then buy my records, because my deepest emotions are just a litmus test for album sales.

But where is it actually getting to?

Gossip isn't what it is appearing to be.

Gossip isn't simply (though it is partially), photographers with super lenses taking peaks of Princesses sunbathing naked, but rather it is a give and take between publicists hired by celebrities to get in the press what they want in the press and the press who want to publish them for an avaricious public. It is a scary stupid world with little to recommend it, but oddly addictive.

Where it all goes pear shaped is where real life tragedy and triumph are devalued and the human experience becomes an excuse for rubbernecking.

And Taylor Swift, one of the biggest stars in the world, is leaking stories about Harry Styles (or vice versa or both). It is all a little grubby, it devalues her music and it devalues us.
