Ahh, the magic of Squeeze. Difford lyrics are perfect stories and Tilbrooks melodies- they're one of the greatest pairings of all time. They are touring the UK now, sorta jealous really but they tossing the world a bone starting December 10th.
Their first new material in 14 years, and the first track "Tommy" will be up on the bands website in just a few weeks. Chris says: "It's taken a long time to get ourselves back to the writing table, mainly because we've been touring in the UK and in the States.
I have been writing lyrics and then sending them over to Glenn who puts the music to them and adds additional lyrics and ideas.' Glenn adds: 'When recording the track we were working on changes to the song and sitting down together discussing where the changes should be made and were in complete agreement about them which is something new for our relationship.'
It doesn't seem so difficult does it. Especially in the electronic age. Just email the tabs or email the lyrics it could be a rather efficient and precise endeavor. Squeeze have to be considered one of the most influential bands to come out of the UK I expect eventually there will be a 'Bringing Sassy Bach' column on them. What a huge part of my musical growing up this band was, the prospect of new material scares me just as much as it excites me. I want to love their new stuff and I want it to stick as their classic tunes have. I often find that after great hiatus bands produce quality material but it simply lacks the ability to settle in to the brain the way a song like "Up The Junction" does. I don't know what the missing 'wow' factor is but i am always hopeful that the latest tunes will hang around awhile. I have faith in Squeeze and I expect great things. Mark your calendar.
