Man, Solange has been hot lately: beating up Hay Z and having it caught on camera, a side trip to a wedding in South America, filled it at Webster hall on the Saturday, tweeting that Mother’s Day was one of the best days of her life, and then on Tuesday, she released this masterful new r&b track with Chromeo. ‘Rumors…but one states that they heard them screaming about Jay getting caught with someone by Solange. Solange told Bey whom kept her calm until they left. But Solange couldn’t. At the end you see Bey yelling at Jay. Could be a rumor though but whats being said. Sad. It just shows money still brings problems
Solange mentioned both she and M.I.A., with her mind on Sunday no doubt, are both mothers now. Not in a stodgy way, but there was no dramatics this night, no kicking photographs , no attitude. The entire evening was spot on the money, in a terrific place to see a show, with a good looking audience and a sweet temperamental and endless intelligence.
But the chance to see the two women, on the same stage, for the same $45, in a club the size of Webster makes another viewing an absolute must. On a Saturday as well, May 10, as Spring has sprung at Webster Hall: the very definition of a must see is two great performers in a small club.
Solange’s 45 minute opening set was perfection and made me an immediate believer all over again, the very next day David Bronson brought The Long Lost to life and Shemekia Copeland killed it with humor and joy. Did I mention Solange was sizzling?
Friday night was a professional and pleasant 90 minutes by a band who can’t figure quite how to merge their concepts of God and men into a full bloodied rock show.
