This woman has been playing crazy for a while, but this latest story about her takes the cake, either she has turned totally insane or she is taking her meds and is having a silent revenge. I don’t have a clue of what’s going on inside Michelle Shocked’s head but she manages to be in the news again with a provocative edge.
According to Rolling Stone, she is releasing an LP entitled ‘Inaudible Woman’ consisting of 11 tracks, all totally silent. The ‘songs’ that you can stream on CD Baby (is this a joke or what?) are named after executives in the digital music world, such as SiriusXM executive Patrick Donnelly, Clear Channel executive Robert Walls,… and are available for download at $0.99 each.
According to Billboard, the last track, ‘Chris Willman’ is a journalist contributor to Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter, who had commented about Shocked’s anti gay rant during a San Francisco concert last year. He wrote on his Facebook:
‘Michelle Shocked has released a new ‘song’ named after me. No, I’m not making this up. For better or worse, the track ‘Chris Willman’ consists entirely of silence, just like the other 10 tracks on the album, the rest of which are named after people in the music community (mostly folks on the forefront of digital music and streaming) whom she considers the enemy. Even knowing it was silent, I just spent 99 cents on CD Baby to buy ‘Chris Willman.’ (It’s good, but it’s no ‘Mean.’)’
Did he really buy it? It’s crazy, but not as crazy as Michelle’s train of thoughts. She also posted this video on Vimeo, in which she explains that ‘Inaudible Woman’ can in fact be heard by dogs, and that her upcoming fall tour could be financed by the sales of this album. I don’t have a dog, so I was not able to test it, can a dog owner try it, please? The silent album and the rest have been done before, nothing really new there, but if she really expects to get money from this stunt, she is definitively insane.
