Some of you may have bought the Record Store Day limited edition of MGMT’s new cassingle ‘Alien Days’ – err, people buy cassingles? – but if you didn’t, you can always stream the song below.
Honestly, the intro of the tune reminds me something that the Polyphonic Spree or even the Flaming Lips would have done a while ago – I am not talking about now since the last Lips’ release is anything but that! 'Alien Days' is sure big on sparkling psychedelia and the perfect track to be released on 4/20, weed day as it seems? But it’s a cute sound, almost childish.
Lead vocalist Andrew VanWyngarden told Rolling Stone magazine that the song is 'about that feeling when a parasitic alien is in your head, controlling things’, and I have no idea if he was serious or wanted to make fun of scientology.
The new track will be featured on their upcoming album, possibly to be released in June, and the funniest part is that the cassette single is sold on eBay for up to $89.99!
