Oh my gosh can’t musicians just stay the hell away from kids and stop being creeps. Steve Klein, guitarist for notorious pop punk originators New Found Glory, has some really nasty charges against him. I was never an avid listener or big fan of the band, but regardless, I’m pretty shocked. I know a lot of bands that I love look(ed) up to this band, and I’m sure that’s changed.
Former NFG guitarist was charged with: two counts of lewd conduct with a minor under the age of 14, 3 counts of lewd conduct with a minor of 14 or 15, 1 count of intent to commit lewd acts with a minor, and 1 count of possession of child pornography.
He pled not guilty, and was arraigned back in December. The day he was arraigned, the band parted ways with him and announced this month that they’re officially a 4-piece *without* Klein.
Klein is not in jail, and is free until his next court appearances (March 20 and April 10). His lawyer released a very interesting statement that is supposed to help his case. It said, “Steven Klein is not accused of having any lewd actual physical contact with any minor. ALL charges against Steve are derived solely from online consensual video chats between Steve and some female strangers he met on an adult website. Steve believed the females were over the age of 18. The females alleged to be ‘minors’ in this case are not known females. This means that no one, not the prosecution, not the police, and not the defense, actually know who the females are and no one knows their true age. The possession of child pornography charge is based solely on Steve allegedly ‘possessing’ videos of chats with the female strangers from the adult website.”
As disgusting as this all is, whether or not he knew whether the girls were 18 or not, he’s allegedly married so that’s wrong in the first place, and doesn’t he have better things to do than chat up some chicks on a sex line? It’s pathetic and I’m thoroughly disturbed.
Hopefully he is found guilty and receives proper punishment.
