Helen Bach got this tweet from Spider Stacy of the Pogues: "As you refer to us as shanes backing bound in your review the least you can do is take off the fucking photo you used of me in the t shirt".
He also tweeted to helen the fllowing: "I do get stroppy when I see that written, it's ignorant".
Geez,, I make so many enemies in this biz it ain't even funny.
1. I wrote it, Helen didn't. Helen adores the Pogues -all of em and sent me a live dvd the other day without Shane to put me right.
2. For godssake Spider, get a grip. You got thousands of worshipful reviews, isn't that enough? Even I loved the concert. Does even one dissenting voice put you in a dither. I didn't say you invaded Poland , I said Shane could get by without the rest of the Pogues but the reverse isn't true. . I base this on Shane's album The Snake, upon his ability to replace the band at will with the Popes, and upon the deflation when he leaves the stage in concert.
4. I realize I am in the minority, I did watch Joe Strummer's excellent assessment of the band, but my ears disagree with him Also, both my co-editor and yourself join a long list of people who disagree with me, including every publication I have read, most of which singled you out in a very positive light. I disagree. The Pogues without Shane are what I claim they are.
5. I realize that the Pogues are dealing with a degenerate (I mean that literally, not metaphorically) alcoholic, and it puts a whole set of problems for the bands to deal with and it may change the assessment of what a backing band isbut I don't care. I wasn't writing about that.
I f you think this is the worst I've heard from ego bruised rock stars you are sadly mistaken. What do I care? it is not my job to publicly fellate the rich and famous.
This is an opinion based music site, it offers commentary often at war with each other. I am going to ask for an assessment of the band without Shane from Helen. I, unlike Spider, embrace dissenting opinions. Freedom is the freedom to disagree
