After releasing 2012’s best album, the great Shake My Head on the terrific Chapel Hill label Odessa records, Spider Bags have graduated to Odessa’s big brother the very wonderful Merge records, with whom Dan McGee’s greatest rock and roll band in the world have just signed.

If all this does is further Spider bags reach well good for them, and since everybody knows each other, Finn used to work for Merge, I am sure this is considered tidings of great joy cum what took them so damn long (Spider Bags formed in 2006).

McGee’s statement is kinda meh but here it is any way: “On a bright clear day sometime in the near or distant future, Quetzalcoatl will come to Earth. Upon arrival, he will scorch a tract of barren land and draw a line in the ash with his terrible talon. On one side of the line he will place Merge; on the other, everything else. Those on the Merge side will then take hold of the mighty winged serpent’s scales and fly with him to live among the stars. They will know all the color and magic of existence, happy and free forever. Those on the other side? Well… we’re glad we’re with Merge.”

I guess Dan has graduated from junk to acid.

And I hope he gets around to speed.
