Experience Taylor

This girl is barely 25 and she is already honored like a legend? Usually people get that kind of recognition when they are old or dead! but Los Angeles is going to honor Taylor Swift, which is crazy because she moved to New York and became the ambassador of this city right?

But we are not spiteful at all and the Grammy Museum will host a new exhibit, ‘The Taylor Swift Experience’, that will open on December 13th, the day of her 25th birthday. Isn’t it ridiculous? She has lived for 5 minutes and there is an exhibit about her life! On display through May 10th 2015, you will be able to see: Taylor’s early childhood reading books, never-before-seen family and childhood photos, tour costumes from the RED Tour, handwritten lyrics for the hit “22”, her 2009 GRAMMY Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance for “White Horse”, official props used in the music video for “Shake It Off”, dresses worn by Swift in her music video for “Mean”, the dress she wore in the music video for “Teardrops On My Guitar”, her banjo used during her performance at the 54th GRAMMY Awards in 2012, and I am sure, many more artifacts…Of course an exhibit would not be an exhibit without interactive parts, and visitors will be able to explore the different facets of Swift’s career… what facets exactly? When she decided to cross over and gave up on her country career to become more pop?

‘Global superstar Taylor Swift is one of popular music’s biggest talents, whose music is beloved by millions of fans worldwide,’ said Bob Santelli, the museum’s executive director. ‘The story of Taylor’s remarkable rise to superstardom is one that the Grammy Museum is extremely excited to tell.’ Oh I am sure millions of fans are excited too, but does he know how ridiculously exploitative this sounds? Putting someone in a museum with costumes and awards is like making her look like a wax figure, like Elvis or Liberace! This is how old-fashioned it looks to me, next time they should erect a statue where she is born, a plaque where she went to school, a portrait in the restaurant where she had her first sandwich, her first drink, her first kiss… why not a Taylor Swift monument on the Washington mall?
