Larry Crane, Elliott Smith’s audio archivist, has posted never-seen-before pictures of Elliott on Flickr… I actually had seen a few of these before, but definitively not all of them!
You can see Elliott taking a break between recording sessions of his album XO at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, and doing some skateboarding or playing basket ball!
You can also see a few taken during the construction and sessions at Crane’s Jackpot! Recording Studio in Portland, OR.
And here are a few others taken by Elliott’s girlfriend, Joanna Bolme, as well as some promo shots. I particularly like two of them taken by Bolme, the one showing Elliott relaxing and tired at Abbey Road, and the one shot for Tape Op Magazine, where Elliott is holding this big ‘WHAT’ sign.
Larry Crane, who worked on ‘New Moon’, the posthumous album released in 2007, and on ‘An Introduction to Elliott Smith’, released two years ago, has declared he was now working on an extensive essay/liner note about Elliott's recording career. I am sure a lot of fans will be interested!
