Remember #CutForBieber? I thought that was the all time low for the internet, but alas, I have been proven wrong. The hashtag “SkinFor1D” started up once there was a leaked video of Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson smoking a joint when leaving Peru. They were in their van, and in the video, are really just goofing off and being silly. There’s nothing wrong with that, except the issue of legality, which doesn’t come into play here- Peruvian law states that possession of marijuana is not punishable if used for personal and immediate consumption in quantities not exceeding eight grams. It also may have soiled their squeaky-clean image, but that was bout to happen. They’re all in their early 20s and this is an absolutely justifiable case of “boys will be boys”.
This hashtag on twitter, #SkinFor1D, features pictures of naked girls, underage and legal, some jokingly, and some completely serious. Liam Payne, a member of the band, caught on to the trending tag and tweeted, “Woah there’s some pretty weird shit going on ATM everyone just calm down and don’t do anything stupid cuz u can’t take it back.” There was finally some sense. He also put some humor in it, posting, “Today is such a weird day why don’t we do a #wearahoodyfor1d or a #WearAsManyClothesAsYouCanAtOnceFor1D,” and “Right everybody concert time let’s try and keep the pg rating lol for Christ sake somebody help me restore sanity.”
It’s incredibly disturbing and has quieted down a bit, with a lot less naked pictures and a lot more jokes. Regardless, it was awful while it lasted and pretty scarring. I am interested in seeing how the band as a whole is going to handle this fresh situation, from the leaked video to the issues of legality when it comes to the photos on twitter.
For the love of god can we please have less stupid hashtags please and thank you.
