Singles Going Steady: Week of October 6th, 2014

A$AP and A$UPERSTAR

A$AP and A$UPERSTAR

1. I’m Not The Only One – Sam Smith, A$AP Rocky – Nicely done mix and match, and compared to the other single he released this week, he rhymes along to the lick very well and with a lot of feeling the first time round, and more forcefully the second time, though it could be a little sharper lyrically – B+

2. London Queen – Charli XCX – I was sorry to miss her Tuesday, more so because I do appreciate the expat New Yorker rocking sing plus nod to the ramones – B+

3. Paperwork – T.I,. Pharrel william – Sounds like Gaye circa Here, My Dear, where he chopped up jazz licks and threw em at r&b – B

4. Dangerous feat Sam Martin – David Guetta – I realize EDM has gone mainstream but this the most mediocre pop imaginable – C+

5. Ain’t Been Done – Jessie J – The singles off the album are  all over the place, but this has a cracking beat and a strong hook, dance at its best – B+

6. So far Away – Mary Lambert – A typical bore – C+

7. Careful You – TV On The Radio – TVOR go mainstream, this is a pretty ballad with weird electronic tracks behind it  – B+

8. Paradise – Big sean – I am so over this guy – C

9. Chrissie Hynde – Butch Walker – In demand producer goes Americana – B

10. Assassin – Spank Rock, Amanda Blank – electronic hi-jinx plus rap – B-

11.Runaway (U & I) – Galantis – Atrocious pop from Sweden, this stuff is getting old  – C-

12. Loneliness Is A Killer – Bush – well, at least it isn’t EDM – C-

13. Hold Me – Gold Fields – Indie pop with a clever hook but not as clever as it needs to be – C+

14. We are The Dream(feat Carousel) – Sound remedy – Catchier than the rest because the melody catches fire after the first verse – B-

15. Paralyzed – Angels And Airwaves – Tom Delong is back and more is the pity – C

16. Numb – Nick Jonas, Angel Haze – This is an odd mix and match that does nobody any favors – C

17. Right Now – Mary J. Blige – A real dog with fleas – C-

18. Real Love – Jess Glynne – featuring Clean Bandit who add strings on one track, and help a whole whole lot – B+

19. you’re not Alone – Owl City – Please God, no – D

20. Wait On Me – Rixton – This r&b track boy band is trying its hand at being the new NSYNC, and they may do it – C+

21. Multiply – A$AP Rocky, Juicy J – You can’t throw a brick without hitting Juicy J though his hits to bombs ratios isn’t that hot. Neither is this – C+
