Frank Sinatra has been dead since 1998. I am fairly certain within this passing time he has not recorded any new music. On January 29th there will be a new release in the signature series titled “Sinatra, With Love”. Why?
It seems to me that if you are legend your have absolutely no chance of dying. The public and your estate handlers will give you no rest at all. The sound of decomposition may be worth the microphone but is it really worth changing up track listings to earn another buck? Simply shifting the tunes over and over like an odd musical slot machine albums are repacked with different cover art and liner notes and served to the obsessed fans like a brand new platter.
Why do you buy this stuff? Remaster, re-box, reissue really just means regurgitated. This one doesn’t even have the infamous ‘found recordings’ There is always some odd engineer who steals a reel to reel and suddenly the artist has 4 ‘never before heard’ tunes that you gotta have. Found on the cutting room floor may well be the only reason for a reissue.
But in this particular case no tape was found, no lost closet of material no ‘found buried in a sand lot’ masters… nothing but the ol’ switcheroo. What a drag. I am not in any way discounting the magic of these songs. Each one is pretty damn amazing- but you know them all If you’re a keeper of Sinatra s catalog ya already got this stuff, send me your moeny instead or start a shuffle playlist on Spotify or something. Dont be sucker.
Here is the shake up- I mean track listing:
