Emmylou Harris was playing at the El Rey in Los Angeles last Thursday, and despite the numerous rumors floating around about her surprise guest, nobody had guessed it would be Ryan Adams. He did 3 new songs, among them ‘Dirty Rain’, and ‘Blue Hotel’, ‘Everybody knows’, ‘Oh My Sweet Carolina’ with Emmylou Harris.
I haven’t followed his career a lot, but the new ones sounded completely in his folk alt-country style. He performed the whole set, which was recorded and posted on YouTube, with a clear voice and a certain melancholy it seems.
In 2010, he released two albums on his own record label PAX AM : a heavy metal study album, Orion, and III/IV, the 12th studio album he recorded with the Cardinals in 2006. Early 2009, he had left his backing band and said he was taking a break from music, so I guess his fans must be thrilled to see him back in action.
