Russell Brand On Tour

a world tour in pointless places

Remember Russell Brand?  He came to the attention of America when he hosted MTV awards with his bed head hair and rock and roll stick legs.  He woo’d us with movies such as Arthur and Get Him To The Greek and then married Katy Perry, fell out of favor, divorced Katy Perry and …well now he tweets a lot.  His horrible cable television show was so bad even I couldn’t watch it and I love bad TV.

He is now embarking on a world tour. Russell is not a musician he is a stand up comedian.  But he has that rock and roll flair that makes it ok for me to list his tour dates here.  Am I a fan?  Well, sorta kinda.  He’s the type of performer who when I’m watching him I really enjoy but when its over I forget it happened.  Sorta like eating popcorn.  I do have to say that his management really opted for a weird venture and why there is no metro NY,LA  or Boston gig is just a ridiculous error.  I realize the cost of playing these places but the concentration of fans is greater- could this be some sort of liability thing from Brand erratic drug hazed days?  Dunno- doesn’t matter.  If you want to see him you’re going to have to go to Atlantic City cuz that’s as close as he gets.

The tour, named ‘Messiah Complex,’ will be a dissection of various social and religious figures and the reality of their lives through comparisons of each other. Messiah Complex is a mental disorder where you think you might be the messiah.

“Did Jesus have it? What about Che Guevara, Gandhi, Malcolm X and Hitler? All these men have shaped our lives and influenced the way we think. Their images are used to represent ideas that often do not relate to them at all. Would Gandhi be into apple? Would Che Guevara endorse Madonna? Would Jesus be into Christianity? All great people are flawed, all of us, flawed people are capable of greatness and for every identifiable icon there is an anonymous mob of unrecognized bods doing all the admin and heavy lifting. This show looks at the importance of heroes in this age of atheistic disposability. Plus there’s sex. Obviously.”
