This just in: Robin Thicke’s new album Paula, a pretty bad effort to be honest, sold just 2% of Blurred Lines in the UK, a statistical glitch 540 copies and what does this tell us?
Among other things, Streaming and buying are mirror images of each others. On Spotify, “Blurred Lines” was streamed 174 Million times, Thicke’s latest song “Get her Back” 2 million times. This is eactly mirrors the UK charts break down, Thicke lost over 98% of his audience in a year and the reason is not just because he sucks. He does suck but so do many people, but because people actively despise him, especially women, his target demo, because he is just so horrible about everything.
I have a friend who is tone deaf (actually former friend), no matter how many times you tell her to stop sayig the wrong thing to people, offending them, offering opinions that aren’t necessary, she never listened and slowly but surely people have moved away from her.
Thicke is the same way, whether every thing has been a PR concept of life imitating art or whether it is all real, it is completely and otherworldly tone death. People, mostly women, men don’t much care, with a great deal of distaste. It seemed like the worst of sleaze, a seducer seducers, a sleaze molests, and Robin comes across as the sleaziest of come on artists. For God sake, that moustache at the very least looks like a warning light. He should have called the album Amber.
Perhaps, if the album had been really good, he could get away with it. But it isn’t and so he sold 540 copies, 2% of Blurred Lines and now wonders if he should apologize (if so, for what?) or change his name to Robin Songz.
