Refused's secret show in Umea, Sweden

Refused, the Swedish hardcore punk band, formed in the early 90s and split in 1998 after having released 5 EPs and 3 albums, but their fans haven’t forgotten them. Last January, they announced their reunion and we now know that they will play Coachella festival in Indio CA, Roskilde Festival in Denmark, Way Out West Festival in Sweden, Sonisphere Festival in the UK, Primavera Sound in Spain and will even headline Groezrock in Belgium.

I know about nothing about Refused, obviously never saw them live, but the enthusiasm of their fans in this video, shot last Wednesday during their first secret show in Umea, Sweden after 14 years of absence, tell something about their impact and the dedication of their public. Some guys, who were already climbing at the top of the crowd before the song had even really started, were clearly ready to rock.

For the die-hard fans, here is the 14-song setlist of the show:

The Shape Of Punk To Come

The Refused Party Program

Refused Are Fucking Dead

Rather Be Dead

Coup d' état

Summerholidays vs Punkroutine

The Deadly Rhythm

Hook, Line and Sinker

Circle Pit

Liberation Frequency

Life Support Addiction

Worms Of The Senses / Faculties Of The Skull

Everlasting

New Noise

At the time Refused called it quit, they declared that they would never reunite, but everyone knows how it works, never say never! In January, the members of the band released a statement to explain their change of mind:

‘We never did ‘The Shape Of Punk To Come’ justice back when it came out; too tangled up in petty internal bickering to really focus on the job. And suddenly there’s this possibility to do it like it was intended. We wanna do it over, do it right. For the people who’ve kept the music alive through the years, but also for our own sakes. We feel that you deserve it and we hope the feeling is mutual.’

Refused will soon hit the U.S, and here is the list of the numerous festivals they will play in Europe during this summer:

Refused 2012 Tour Dates:
04/13 – Indio, CA @ Coachella Music Festival
04/18 – San Francisco, CA @ The Warfield *
04/20 – Indio, CA @ Coachella Music Festival
04/22 – New York, NY @ Terminal 5
04/23 – New York, NY @ Terminal 5

As it is usually the case for bands playing Coachella, they will avoid Los Angeles during their tour! I would like to remind these guys that Coachella is more than 130 miles away from LA, and that the desert is way too hot.

Watch them playing ‘Everlasting’, during their show in Sweden last Wednesday, but seeing the number of iPhones in the audience, you can guess there are many other footages floating around.
