Idina Menzel is touring. She is best known as Elphaba in Wicked or perhaps as Lea Michelles mother on the horror show Glee.
A beautiful and classic theater singer she is taking it to the streets . “I am so thrilled to be going back on tour this summer,” Menzel said. “I am eager to reconnect with my audience, perform my favorite songs and explore some exciting new material.”
Menzel’s resume includes her Tony-nominated role as Maureen Johnson in the Broadway musical “Rent,” the film version of “Rent,” Kesa/The Wife/The Actress in the musical “See What I Wanna See,” an appearance on ABC’s “Private Practice,” and a spot in the Disney film “Enchanted. Musical theater apparently cant get enough of her. Nor can her fans. I have literally heard people shriek at the mention of her name.. which is rather disturbing.
Numerous dates are on tap the most relevant being the last show Oct. 29 at New York City’s Carnegie Hall.
Menzel’s CD/DVD Idina Menzel Live: Barefoot At The Symphony is due out March 6, featuring classic pop and musical theater favorites as well some cover tunes. God, I pray she doesn’t do ‘Blackbird’ as every other crooner does.. Led by composer/conductor Marvin Hamlisch, the show was filmed at The Royal Conservatory’s Koerner Hall in Toronto.
Barefoot At The Symphony will air on PBS beginning March 3.
