Raphael Saadiq’s, ‘Stone Rollin’

For a limited time (and I don’t know long it will last) Amazon offers you ‘Stone Rollin’, a Raphael Saadiq’s track for free.

The track is very bluesy, old school R&B, starting with a muddy harmonica, some soulful vocals, and moves energetically, waking up a flute-like synth and then a bass line à la Neil Young’s Greendale, later in the song

This ‘man of his word’ (he chose this last name because this is what Saadiq means in Arabic) has overcome a lot since he was born: he has been surrounded by tragedy at a very young age as several of his siblings died when he was young and his mother was murdered when he was 7, but he toured with Prince at 12, began his career as the lead vocalist and bassist in Tony! Toni! Toné!, than launched the supergroup Lucy Pearl in 1999, earned 5 Grammy nominations for his first solo album 'Instant Vintage' in 2002, and 3 Grammy Awards for his previous album, ‘The Way I See It’ in 2008.

Stone Rollin’s is the title track of his fifth studio album, set up to be released on May 10th, and the album will feature guest appearance Yukimi Nagano (Little Dragon), Larry Dunn (Earth, Wind and Fire).
