Pussy Riot In The Studio With Le Tigre's JD Samson

1100328

Pussy Riot is collaborating with Le Tigre? This totally makes sense! The American electroclash consisting of Kathleen Hanna (Bikini Kill), Johanna Fateman, Sadie Benning then JD Samson has always been known for their left-wing political lyrics and feminism views, and it is a given that the Russian Pussy Riot took their inspiration from the Riot Grrrl movement.

According to NME, Nadya Tolokonnikova and Masha Alekhina have revealed that the band has been working with Le Tigre/MEN JD Samson in the studio as Nadya explained:

‘It’s new for us because we’re artists; we’re not really musicians or from the music world. Now we’re working with some real musicians, including JD Samson, on some creative stuff.Maybe at some point in the future we will do an album, but right now we want to make videos.’

So far, all we have is that Instagram picture posted by Johanna Fateman and showing the girls together. Pussy Riot’s members have always been very honest about not being real musicians, while using punk songs as a medium for their revolt, so obviously the result may be interesting, and the message really important at a time when homophobia has never been so extreme in Russia.

Le Tigre has always dealt with issues concerning the LGBT community, plus JD has released a song called ‘Let Them Out Or Let Me In’ in support of the Pussy Riot girls when they were imprisoned after their performance in Moscow’s Christ the Savior Cathedral.

I just wonder how they communicate, last time I saw Nadya and Masha, they still needed a translator (Nadya’s husband) and didn’t speak English at all!! Either they were faking it a bit and they speak perfect English or music is their common language.
