At last some news from ‘The Terror’, the upcoming Flaming Lips' album, I thought the world had almost forgotten about it. But no, Wayne Coyne seems to have written some weird press release, which may or may not give us some light on their last achievement. Just read this:
‘Why would we make this music that is The Terror— this bleak, disturbing record…?? I don't really want to know the answer that I think is coming: that WE were hopeless, WE were disturbed and, I think, accepting that some things are hopeless… or letting hope in one area die so that hope can start to live in another?? Maybe this is the beginning of the answer.’
‘We want, or wanted, to believe that without love we would disappear, that love, somehow, would save us that, yeah, if we have love, give love and know love, we are truly alive and if there is no love, there would be no life. The Terror is, we know now, that even without love, life goes on… we just go on… there is no mercy killing.’
May be you have made sense of the whole statement, may be not,… it doesn’t matter, this is typical of them, pretending to have the beginning of the answer (to the meaning of life?) and throwing obscure statements about life, love, and death… and other omnipresent Lips' themes.
The good news is that we already have the tracklist and the art cover (and there is nothing terrorizing about it), the bad news is that there are only 9 songs.
However, the track ‘Sun Blows Up Today’ will be released on January 29 when digital pre-order for the album begins… According to Pitchfork, the song will also be featured in a Super Bowl commercial staring the Lips,… I will be patiently waiting.
