Discovering new music that I enjoy is getting more and more difficult for me. Tons of bands just end up sounding the same and melting together. However, I stumbled a band called Poverty Hollow, and they’ve gotten me hooked. Even better, they’re a local band. I love CT and all of the creativity it expels, but PH has really taken the spotlight in my eyes.
“Big Claw” is a brilliant song. It is wonderfully composed, intricate and interesting. The vocals are lovely, and all together, it sounds nearly like a Brand New demo off of “Daisy”. The crescendos and changes that drive the tune definitely kept my attention and it’s all just so unpredictable, which is great.
“Pleasantly Unenjoyable” has been stuck in my head for a while now. There’s so many little details incorporated that I pick up something new every time I listen to it. This song definitely solidified my love for PH, and has made me beyond intrigued to delve into their other music, and to spread them like the plague. They can really appeal to fans of every genre; the vocals are stunning, the musicianship is fascinating and impressive, and the overall sound is pleasant and anything but boring.
An older song of theirs, “Reverie”, is an absolute masterpiece. It’s so ambient and calming, and I can’t even imagine how phenomenal this would be live. It suits the vocalist so well and it’s almost ethereal. It’s definitely my favorite song of theirs; I can’t get enough of it. I wish it was even longer because I could listen to it forever. However, putting it on repeat will do just fine.
Check them out here.
