Paul Simon's Next Release Will Be An EP?

In a recent interview with the Herald Sun, Paul Simon is revealing that he is about to release a follow-up to his 2011 album ‘So Beautiful So What’, but it may not be exactly what fans are expecting:

‘I think it's going to be an EP of about five tracks, I've written one song, which I'm really proud of. It's a ballad with some really intricate guitar. I have some more ideas, but I think releasing something smaller will work.’

It’s quite unusual for him, he has consistently be releasing albums with 9-10 tracks for more than 45 years, but an EP? This is a first! May be he is following the music business new trend, albums are dead, people buy/stream single songs, so it’s not worth it to release full albums anymore? Despite the fact that the large majority of Simon’s public is probably still buying full albums, and even CDs.

The Herald Sun is an Australian newspaper, and interestingly enough, Simon is currently touring there with 39-year-old Rufus Wainwright, whose public doesn’t have exactly the same demographics. May be it is a way to keep in touch with a younger audience.

Simon also added that the sound of the new material was ‘different altogether for him again’. But his fans are used to see him reinventing himself at each release during his long career.
