Patty Griffith At MHOW Tonight, Parker Millsap To Open

Has anybody ever written anything nasty about Patty Griffin, the country singer who hit big in the 1990s when her demo tape got picked up by A&M? Not me, I have nothing negative to add,  well, not me really. I called last years American Kid a bit of snooze, and I guess it is a bit of snooze but she has a very tender voice and she is a good songwriter.

All good reasons to catch her at Music Hall On Williamsburg today right, but here is another one. Parker Millsap is opening. He is the guy behind “Truck Stop Gospel” -a “goddamn Christian on fire”. Actually, lapsed Christian but it’s the thought that counts! Between Lydia Loveless (who took down my review off her Facebook page, not that I blame her), Lyn Bowtell and all those Milk Carton Kids I saw a couple of years ago at the T Bone Burnett:  a type of country now known as American because Luke Bryan hijacked for “Bro” pop.

I didn’t find Parker that great over an entire album but over a song or two he is definitely the real deal and this is a good opportunity to see a new and a less new country show without worrying about Spring Break.
